Dear Patrick
It always brightened my day or week, the times you would come and share my office, for a morning or afternoon, passing through Liverpool to see your family. You were always kind and asked interested questions and made me feel my effort was recognised, though you would have rarely seen the fruits of it. I am sure these qualities contributed hugely to the strength of the team you built around you. Later, in Greece, driving to see clients - or rather, spending the afternoon stuck in traffic - I was struck by what a mission it had been, striking out into a foreign land and crafting a business, a team, an identity, and a family there. I admired that your evident success was coupled with an evident regard for, and care of, the people around you and that your passion for the world, its problems and glories, was not at all diminished by that success. I enjoyed that afternoon, despite the tedium of the traffic, hearing your views on the world, the modern moment. I remember thinking, "here is a person one could learn a great deal from". I am sure those close to you know that they were blessed to learn from you. Your legacy stretches far and wide, living in them.
Pass light-footed over mountain tops, above the sparkling sea, and ride the breeze and watch the waves that evermore will be.
Adieu.
Rachel
